" The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all art and science. He to whom this emotion
is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand
rapt in awe, is as good as dead.. his eyes are closed."
Albert Einstein

a bit of a spoof on Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies

when the amourous skunk named Pepe La Pew said "Come Wez Me to Ze Casbah."

My painting reminded me of a crazy casbah.

Mars Cyndonia

A Spacescape of the Mar's ancient village of Cydonia and one of my first missions to Planet Mars using the astral mind to visit a place scientists says actually exists. Later we will physically journey to the red planet, exploring challenges of surviving on Mars, a mysterious world that once had oceans, rivers and may have harbored simple life - the discovery of which could revolutionize our understanding of the universe. My father, Cecil J. Darby told me when I was five years old that people would live on Mars! As we stood in the front yard, he would say, "Look," as he pointed to a tiny sparkling red dot in Miami's dark in those days sky. "See that red planet?" He read me stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, A Princess of Mars. We will go there one day, he said. NASA's JPL has launched many successful unmanned missions to Mars. Soon the space agency will schedule missions eventually leading to colonization and a second home for humanity perhaps as it happened at first on earth.

News Flash: They said there would be water and there is!

Encelades Silver

40 x 40 x 1

acrylic on canvas

Encelades is a moon of Saturn and NASA's Cassini spacecraft exploring the Saturnian system of moons and rings, has found evidence of liquid water reservoirs that erupt in Yellowstone-like geysers on Saturn's moon Enceladus. The rare occurrence of liquid water so near the surface raises many new questions about the mysterious moon.

Valles Marinaris

60" x 48"

enamel on canvas

Valles Marineris was inspired by my time as a space reporter covering the Apollo Moon Program. Scientists believe the Valles Marineris canyons were probably formed by a stretching of the Mars crust much like forces that pulled Earths continents apart from one another long ago. They do not believe these canyons were formed by running water which causes canyons here on Earth. Other planets in our Solar system are covered with vast features that boggle the mind such as 10 mile deep chasms and huge craters far more menacing than on gentle Planet Earth. Gallery wrapped on heavy stretcher bars. Painting continues on the sides.

Tracking Ganymede

Original painting

mixed media on plexiglass

This work depicts NASA's Voyager spacecraft on its mission to Jupiter's Moon of Ganymede in 1990. The beautiful and amazing planetary traveler sent back images and data until it got to the edge of our Solar System and then the signal died about 3 years ago. NASA finally shut it off forever.
